Just Because It's July 2nd

Hello my summer lovers :)

Hope everyone is having a fabulous summer filled with tons of adventure, travel, beach, relaxation, and new friends! I figured I'd catch you all up with what has been going on in my life lately, and most of that includes fashion, and truthfully though I wouldn't have it any other way.

I might not have mentioned this before but there is a place in Miami, called Wynwood, and it is the most extravagant place I have been too! It is a street filled with art galleries, street food, yummy restaurants, street music, and tons of graffitied walls, all my favorite things *cue the girl in the pink shirt emoji* Since I live so close to Miami I have been lucky enough to visit Wynwood quite a bit, below are some pictures from my adventures there:

If you're interested to know what I'm wearing, naturally and like often my outfit consists of Brandy Melville, The white dress is the Jada Dress and I paired it up with some arm candy that I got from Urban Outfitter and Guess, along with a light pink bralet from Victoria Secrets and Jack Rogers for shoes!

I like to keep my arm candy simple but yet have it stick out and be something special especially with an outfit like this to give it a contrast! Plus I love anything with an evil eye on it and tons of gold :)

P.S. I tried looking on line to link my jewelry, but since then both Urban and Guess have gotten new shipments/updated their websites :/

In my pictures where I'm wearing a black dress my outfit consists of a black dress from Brandy, that I got during winter break, but since they don't carry it anymore here are some alternatives :) HERIKA DRESS and the ELIZABETH DRESS . I'm rocking the same arm candy, as the first set of pictures, and for shoes I borrowed those from my mom lol but any cute detailed shoes would look stellar!

I like to keep my outfits simple when I go to Wynwood, that way during pictures there is no competing with the back ground.

As I've mentioned before, to me art and fashion are an all in one deal, and anytime I can combine the two is when I'm the happiest, because in the end of the day it's all about self expression and you can rock anything you want to!

The Modern Day Cruella De Vil

Fall 2014 story board for clutch magazine

My fall inspiration for fashion is the 90's Kate Moss Calvin Klein ad, you know the black and white one in the jeans where she is sitting on the ground, and that along with my love for street art turned into what I call....

"The Modern Day Cruella De Vil"

In case you're wondering how the two correlate I'll explain it's simple, I took the jean and bad ass Kate Moss vibe from the ad, and combined that with fall temperatures of wearing faux fur, or fur which ever you prefer, and the first thing that crossed my mind was Cruella!

Now imagine a photo shoot set up at your favorite graffiti wall...
  • with electric blue accents in make up or a bag, still a favorite from Spring
  • boyfriend jeans on, cuffed at the ankles obviously
  • a graphic tee that explains your day in more words than one, cue Kate Moss attitude
  • a fur coat on, you know chilly weather and what not
  • and lastly a little Dalmatian pup sitting up on a trash can next to the model!
Basically the embodiment of all things Fall in my eyes!! In addition to Electric Blue still being on of my favorite colors for Fall Chocolate is another, I love how the color carries so much depth and texture to it!

Asymmetrical Love

This was my Spring story board, for Clutch magazine, on all this fashion and inspiration.

Spring to me means Electric Blue, Hot Pink, and tons of asymmetry really testing the limits on conventional beauty and finding art everywhere.

Tuesday, Blues, Details

For most people Mondays are dreary days, and I never fully understood why because it's your week starting all over again, it's a clean slate. On this Monday you can be a totally different person than you were last Thursday, or do something entirely new, and be a new you in any way you want.

Often after the excitement of Monday wears off I'm left feeling Tuesday blue, with my mind racing on all the things I want to cherish, accomplish, and feel I should do, by the end of the week. There really is no worse feeling than feeling you "should do" something.

This often results in this really cool thing I do where I freak myself out about all things life, like what and who will I be in five years, and I just start going at a 100mph focusing on a bunch of irrelevant things and not really accomplishing much.

I'm trying to learn to just occasionally stop, breath, and face one problem at a time, or appreciate one thing at a time, so that way I'm giving this one thing, whatever it may be, my everything and not just 5%.

The whole point of this post is to not get overly worked about the big picture and to sometimes breath and remember you're alive, and do something that makes you happy to know you are. I know I need the reminder sometimes and I figured other might too. :)

And my reminder today was the 10-second pause it takes for me to take the elevator, in my apartment, from the 5th floor to the 1st on the way to class. Just because something is routine or old, even in fashion, it doesn't make it boring. Anything can be as exciting as your birthday morning if you make it that exciting, and as hard as it can be I think it'll make all the difference in the end.

And remember, never to doubt yourself, even if only for a second because not even you can imagine the possibilities you're capable of. Xoxo

With Love, Your Summer Overalls

My spring obsession is currently: Overalls.

Personally, I have never been a fan of jean overalls because they remind me of what I wore during the summers growing up, but these cloth overalls are my life! And trust me cloth overalls, are 10x more comfortable than anything made of jean, ever.

I live in Florida so the only real chances I get to wear them is out to dinner when temperatures hit about 60 degrees, and us Floridians freak and wear pants and jackets hahaha. I do suggest to wear them when going out because it is often so difficult to dress up pants because they require serious planning, and often we run out of time for that. These overalls are the easy way out when you are maybe just attending a event that requires pants, or you just want to stay chic and stray away from anything average. The reason I say these overalls are the easy way out is because you get the chance to "keep it simple" since the fit and look of the overalls is so womanly you don't need to add much to dress it up.

My style inspiration for the outfit above was Kylie Jenner, and I have to say great minds think alike! These overalls are made for a crop top, since the outfit provides so much coverage it is nice to show some cute midriff to balance out the pants.

The pieces in my outfit consist of an American Apparel crop top, priced at $24, and the exact one can be found at this link http://store.americanapparel.net/baby-rib-crop-t_4380, the color I'm wearing is Sea Foam! I almost always pair Sea Foam with white for summertime it gives it a relaxed look.

The Pants of the hour are from ASOS, but on the plus side are only $42.33! However, since Kylie wore them they have been out of stock for almost a month now, but there is hope they might get restocked! ASOS offers the pants if what looks like red, and the tan color Kylie had on.

The link for the pants is http://www.asos.com/ASOS/ASOS-Tailored-Jumpsuit/Prod/pgeproduct.aspx?iid=3011603&cid=9638&sh=0&pge=0&pgesize=9999&sort=-1&clr=Camel&utm_source=Affiliate&utm_medium=LinkShare&utm_content=UKNetwork.1&utm_campaign=gcdL/ATRVoE&cvosrc=Affiliate.LinkShare.gcdL/ATRVoE&link=10&promo=236989&source=linkshare&MID=35718&affid=2134&WT.tsrc=Affiliate&siteID=gcdL_ATRVoE-2paWA0RvybJ9oIbcQ5wHRQ

My shoes are black & white platform Michael Kors heels, I feel like I'm walking on air with them they are beyond comfortable. I do suggest wearing heals with these pants just because the material of the pants feels expensive enough that it calls for heels. Also for me, the pants come to my ankles and even slightly scrunch up there, that wearing flat heels would make my feet look bigger. I went to black & white route with shoes because it keeps the outfit polished.

If the pants seem too long, feel free to work with the length and roll them up if need be!

Also side note to life, I know this detail is important for me, but when I wore these pants out, I mentioned how I went to dinner, and when I go out to eat it is carbs galore I hold back on nothing and that's why I often opt to wearing dresses to hide my food baby. Luckily though, these pants are even more perfect and show no food baby! Which, being white was my biggest fear, but these pants held their shape wonderful, and by the end of the night I felt as fabulous as I did when I stepped out.

So bless ASOS, crop tops, and Michael Kors because you all have made going out during summer that much more effortless.

P.S. Can I say that if/when the pants come back into stock I suggest getting red because I feel like the white and tan can have the fearful chance of looking like maintenance/ painter overalls, but you will never have such a chic maintenance worker in red overalls, so you'll be golden with red. Plus red overalls are perfect for fall, when it tends to be chillier!

A Ode to New York City

Photo credits belong to Miasblog. Taken standing on the steps of the New York Public Library.

I spent this past week in New York City, the city of dreams, and I don't know if it was my trip, the fact that I should be asleep now, or that I cleared my head while taking a shower, but I am feeling poetic and inspired to share my thoughts with you all.

I went to New York for a FPRA trip; it is the PR organization from my school, because in case you weren't aware I am having a midlife crisis trying to figure out "who I want to be when I grow up." Even though LA is probably my one true love and where I plan on living "when I grow up" there were something I discovered and learned about my self in New York.

First off, I loved the independence I felt in New York, because the city comes along with this idea that if you want something you have to get it. By just standing in the crowed Times Square plaza with 100's of people passing you it is so easy to fade. But you can't fade, you can't ever settle for just "hoping" things will go your way you need to feed off of the independence and let it build you up. New York City is a strong city; it has lasted over 100s of years, opening its arms to every person that has washed up on its shore trying to grasp a part of the "American Dream." Even through all of that, the city has become even more glamorous and fabulous than the year before.

New York City is home to Fashion week, every spring and fall, where it sees the likes of models, designers, and photographers all trying to capture that moment in time along with inspiration to bring them back next year. I think when I was in New York the most "glamorize" moment was in SoHo seeing this couple, one dressed in all black, just standing outside of the Yves Saint Laurent store having a smoke break, encompassing all things fashion week in one moment. The inspiration one gains from New York is enough to make a person believe they can change the world, and often they do.

I love how poetic New York is, how you can pass a mass of people all feeding into the advertisements of Times Square but still find the mom and pop restaurant that has been around since the 50's. I also love how one of the few places in New York that you get to pause and just reflect on your day and life is in a subway cart, standing next to 20 other strangers, who all have stories of love, passion, and hardships of their own but in that moment you'd never guess. The subway is the one time when you are not connected with the rest of the world through the craze of Wi-Fi and 4G but instead just you and the rawness of New York with every creak and crack and turn of the train that takes you from point A to B everyday.

I often have a tendency to over romanticize moments in my life but truthful their is nothing as inspiring as the air you breath in New York City, it is strong and impactful enough to keep people up for hours, in a city that never sleeps, trying to capture that "je ne sais quoi" which is as different for everyone as is their reasoning for being in the city.

Only Statement Necklace That Makes A Statement

In my last post I referenced a Betsey Johnson statement necklace and I didn't want to confuse the post talking about two different pieces so this is the necklace I referenced would look perfect with the skort! This is a close up of all the detailing on the necklace and the coloring.

Photo credits to me in my apartment!

It is really such a fun necklace and I got so many complements on it during my sorority rush. Since this necklace has so much detailing it really needs to be paired with a simple outfit and not much other jewelry otherwise the different pieces will compete for attention. This is how I styled it for pref day of recruitment!

Photo belongs to me

The beading on my dress was very neutral and held back that it didn't compete with the necklace and with my hair pulled back all the attention was on the necklace.

Betsey Johnson doesn't carry the same necklace anymore but I have attached a link to her web page where you can find other necklaces she carries that are along the same style like this one,

or this one,

If you aren't aware Betsey Johnson also carries clothes so it is beyond worth it to check her site out it you have a girly style but are also bold! Betsey Johnson never holds back and often her pieces better speak for themselves :)
